Day In The Life Of An Executive Director Of An Educational Organization

My Day to Day

I work to ensure that children under five, alongside their parents, receive foundational early literacy support. Our flagship program, Birmingham Talks, involves using a wearable device to track and enhance language development. We analyze this data to offer personalized coaching, helping to bridge the word gap in underprivileged communities. My days are spent on the ground, engaging with families and refining strategies to nurture the potential of our youngest learners.

Skills & Education

Here's the path I took:

  • High School

  • Bachelor's Degree

    Spanish

    Mississippi College

  • Graduate Degree

    Educational Leadership

    Samford University

Life & Career Milestones

My path in life has been direct

  • 1.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Spanish but wasn’t quite sure what to do with that.

  • 2.

While in college, I intended to spend a summer as a Spanish translator but ended up taking over teaching a first grade class instead—I knew then that I wanted to build my career around education.

  • 3.

My first official job after college was with Teach for America, where I worked as a public school teacher for title I schools.

  • 4.

I spent five years teaching and then transitioned to work for Teach for America as a coach for first and second year public school teachers.

  • 5.

During that time, I also went back to school to earn my master’s degree in educational leadership.

  • 6.

I now work as the executive director for Small Magic, an organization that makes sure kids under age five get the very best from the very beginning of their lives.
