Life & Career Milestones
My path in life has been direct
1.
First I discovered I loved History and the Social Sciences.
2.
Then I took relevant, rigorous coursework in high school.
3.
Then I chose a college based on my chosen career path...teaching.
4.
Then I finished my B.A. in History.
5.
Then I participated in a study abroad program (England) through another university.
6.
Then I enrolled in the Single Subject Credential Program at CSULB.
7.
After I finished student teaching, I went on a few interview and earned a teaching position in 2007.
8.
Although my contracts have changed year to year due to budget cuts, I continue to teach in LBUSD.

You should get another credential...history teachers are a dime a dozen.
How I responded:
I understand that it is important to have a career that is in demand, and that if I had another credential or degree things would definitely be easier, but I have also felt that it is better to struggle towards a dream than accept or settle on a path that I do not have a passion for. I will not deny that economy and budget cuts have made the job situation more difficult or challenging, but I try to remember the following quote: "It's not over when you fail, it's over when you give up."
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Budget cuts: some years, I've had to reapply or work as a substitute until a contract position opens up, which can be frustrating. Still, I try to think of the wonderful/rewarding experiences I've had as a teacher, which help me to remain determined.
